Teaching Philosophy
I believe that education is rooted in the minds of children. As a teacher I strive to get to know my students as people so I can understand them as learners. This provides the foundation to creating child-centered lessons that are engaging and meaningful. I believe that to teach a child you must connect with them, and once those connections are built, the work that goes into responsive planning and teaching becomes natural. In my classroom I strive to ensure that every child feels important, intelligent, supported, and loved. I think that it’s incredibly important to teach children within the contexts of the world around them. Within this classroom community I believe that students should be pushed to solve real-world problems, develop literacy, use critical thinking skills, and become an informed citizen. Allowing children to see into the lives of others teaches them to reflect on themselves, and look at the world with compassion. This can be achieved through providing mirrors, windows, and sliding glass doors within everyday learning and routines in the classroom. I believe that teaching is a profession rooted in a passion for learning and care for the future that our students will create.
